Le manque de rétention de l'eau entraîne une pénurie d'eau, des sécheresses et des inondations.
La matière organique peut retenir jusqu'à 90% de son poids en eau et la libérer lentement au fil du temps. C'est une aide précieuse dans les régions sujettes à la sécheresse.
Perte de biodiversité
Les scientifiques affirment qu’environ 27 000 espèces disparaissent chaque année en raison de la perte de leur habitat.
La crise est telle que 80% de la biomasse des insectes a disparu.
La perte de biodiversité perturbe davantage l’habitat des sols et empêche leur régénération.
Changement climatique
Les sols stockent 3 fois plus de carbone que les plantes vivantes et 2 fois plus que l'atmosphère, ce qui fait d'eux un élément essentiel pour le piégeage du carbone.
Si les sols de la planète ne sont pas revitalisés, ils pourraient libérer 850 milliards de tonnes de dioxyde de carbone dans l’atmosphère, contribuant ainsi au changement climatique. C’est plus que toutes les émissions produites par l’humanité au cours des 30 dernières années.

La dégradation des sols pousse des milliers d'agriculteurs au suicide.
74% des pauvres sont directement touchés par la dégradation des sols dans le monde.
On estime que l'extinction des sols coûte au monde jusqu'à 10 600 milliards de dollars par an.
Conflits et migrations
L'augmentation de la population et la pénurie de nourriture et d’eau pourraient provoquer la migration de plus d’un milliard de personnes vers d’autres régions et d'autres pays d’ici 2050.

Si nous agissons maintenant, cette crise peut être efficacement inversée dans le monde entier grâce à des politiques visant à préserver la santé des sols. Les actions individuelles isolées ne suffisent plus pour inverser la tendance. Pour garantir la santé des sols, la participation collective de tous les citoyens est nécessaire, ce qui ne peut être assuré qu'en adoptant les politiques nécessaires dans chaque nation du monde.
La réussite d'un changement de politique
Au milieu des années 1970, les scientifiques ont mis en garde contre le fait que des produits chimiques fabriqués par l'homme, tels que les chlorofluorocarbones ou CFC, présents dans des produits d'usage courant comme les aérosols, les réfrigérateurs et les climatiseurs, nuisaient à la couche d'ozone (la couche d'atmosphère qui nous protège des rayons ultraviolets nocifs pour la peau, responsables de cancers). En 1985, un trou a été confirmé dans la couche d'ozone au-dessus de l'Antarctique et sa taille a augmenté rapidement. L'avenir aurait pu être sombre, avec des cancers de la peau, des plantes mourantes et des écosystèmes endommagés dans le monde entier. En 1987, les pays se sont réunis (197 au total) et ont accepté de cesser d'utiliser les CFC et les produits chimiques similaires qui appauvrissent la couche d'ozone en signant le protocole de Montréal. Cette politique a conduit à l'élimination progressive de 99% des produits chimiques appauvrissant la couche d'ozone. Aujourd'hui, la couche d'ozone se reconstitue et, selon les estimations actuelles, le trou va se refermer complètement vers le milieu de ce siècle. (*Références : www.unep.org)

Save Soil campaign comes to Bonn
On a mission to save the world's soils from extinction, the Save Soil campaign reached Bonn on 13 April 2022. The 100-day journey led by Sadhguru will cover 30,000 km across 25 nations to call on the policymakers and the public to make soil regeneration a priority. The campaign led by Sadhguru on his motorbike received a warm welcome from the city of Bonn officials and the executive management of the UN agencies in Germany.
